Hello everyone, it's been a very long while since we published a blog post with other information than an update release. You will probably notice that Florian and I are more inclined to update the game instead of communicating and making such blog posts. Which is not a good thing. At all. So here I am away from my Unity editor to give you a couple of concrete updates.
This week is marked by a particularly sad event which is the end of the internships of @djodessa, @VladV95 and @NinjaofColour. @rickinator9 for only a few short weeks more.
You guys rock, you have delivered work of a quality that blasted our expectations, and we wish you to
come back very soon be very successful in your future internships and jobs, although I know you guys will do more than fine.
This one is a big one since we have not written about it for... well ages. The alpha has been around for over a year now. On top of all the gameplay improvements made since then, @Florian and @dukeeen have been hard at work implementing all the meta-game and community features we have now (regiments, leaderboards, etc...) which is an enormous amount of work.
We have also implemented the lobby that you had been asking for all this time, and we have included the very preliminary implementations of the sniper and the machine-gun (on which you are invited to provide your feedback).
So what now?
Although there was a nice peak of activity during January and February, numbers of game played has been going down since then. It is time we focus on growing the community, which means that we will start communicating the existence of Divided We Fall to the world outside, and make the game more friendly for newbies.
Therefore, this is what we will focus on during the summer:
- Improved UI, overhauled controls, (mainly because we noticed that they were confusing to new players)
- Ranking revamp and implementation of officer ranks and companies (for real, this time, I've already started it)
- There is also a special modding tool which is nearing completion which will be unveiled... let's say pretty soon.
- Marketing and communication for a very big announcement coming in July and August.
Meanwhile, there is a good chance that we make the alpha private for a few weeks, from the end of July until the end of August at the latest. This is partially for ease of technical development, but also to help external communication, and create a big event when the game becomes available again. We will update you with more information as it goes.
I can not unveil everything, but here's how it goes: we have shown Divided We Fall to uh... some fine people and you can expect things to become really interesting around the second half of August. In about a month we will make a major announcement about it, and give you a precise date. Stay tuned, there are exciting times ahead!
